"My addiction history means I can't be trusted with leadership or influence."
How it sounds in your head: I've been clean for three years, but people still see me as 'the girl who struggled with pills' or 'the one who went to rehab.' I can serve in the nursery, but never teach or lead. One relapse and I'd prove everyone right—I'm not stable enough for real responsibility.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Source: Religion creates permanent probationary status for certain sins, withholding trust based on history rather than covenant identity and current standing in Christ.
She's seen how church leadership quietly sidelines people with 'those kinds of pasts,' always asking 'How are you doing?' with that loaded tone. Every time she wants to step up, the internal voice says 'Who are you kidding? You're one trigger away from proving them right.'
Paul was a murderer, terrorist, and chief of sinners who dragged believers to prison. Immediately after conversion, he began preaching in synagogues (Acts 9:20)—no probation period, no 'prove yourself first,' instant apostleship to the Gentiles.
I REFUSE the lie that my past addiction disqualifies me from leadership. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a NEW creation—old things PASSED away, ALL things BECAME new. Not 'becoming'—BECAME. I am not defined by history but by covenant. IT IS WRITTEN that Paul went from murderer to apostle with no probationary period. I am Abraham's seed, heir according to PROMISE. The BARAK blessing covered Jacob the deceiver and protected him—how much more does Christ's blood qualify me? I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, fully trusted by the Father, fully equipped for every good work. There is NO condemnation (Romans 8:1). I lead from NEW creation identity, not old history.
The Father doesn't see 'former addict on probation'—He sees a trusted daughter, fully qualified, given the ministry of reconciliation. He handed Paul the Gospel immediately; He's handing you influence NOW, not after you 'prove yourself.'
