"Money is the root of all evil, so poverty keeps me safe from corruption."
How it sounds in your head: I've seen what money does to people—it corrupts, it changes them, it ruins families. Better to have little and stay pure than risk becoming one of those greedy, selfish people. My poverty protects my soul.
"The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it."
-- Proverbs 10:22Misquoted Scripture (1 Timothy 6:10 says 'love of money,' not money itself) used to make poverty seem holy.
She's witnessed family fights over inheritances and seen wealthy people act selfishly. Poverty feels morally safer—she can't be corrupted by what she doesn't have.
The wealthiest man in all the East—7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 oxen, 500 donkeys—and Scripture calls him 'blameless and upright, one who feared God and shunned evil.' His wealth and righteousness coexisted perfectly because righteousness isn't about your bank account.
I REFUSE the lie that poverty protects me from corruption. IT IS WRITTEN that the blessing of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow with it—God's wealth comes with peace, not compromise. Money isn't evil; it's a tool, and in the hands of the righteous, it funds the Kingdom. IT IS WRITTEN in Galatians 3:13-14 that I'm redeemed from the curse and blessed with Abraham's blessing—Abraham was extremely wealthy and God's friend. The barak blessing protects me FROM corruption, not through poverty. I am the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath, and my righteousness is a GIFT, not threatened by provision.
Your Father isn't keeping you poor to keep you safe—He's the one who GIVES power to get wealth so you can establish His covenant. The prodigal squandered wealth and still got the ring back—provision doesn't disqualify you from the Father's table.
