"Medical science has replaced the need for divine healing. We have doctors now, so miracles aren't necessary."
How it sounds in your head: You feel almost guilty for wanting supernatural healing when you have access to healthcare that people in Bible times didn't. Isn't it ungrateful to ask God for a miracle when you have insurance? Maybe divine healing was just for ancient times before antibiotics and MRIs. Maybe you're supposed to be practical and use medicine, not 'test God' by expecting miracles.
"If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you."
-- Exodus 15:26Source: Western rationalism that makes God's intervention either unnecessary or irresponsible, reducing faith to what can be explained scientifically.
You've been raised to 'pray but also see the doctor,' as if God can't work without a medical degree. The church blessed your surgery but seems embarrassed by healing testimonies. Medicine works sometimes, so maybe that's God's preferred method now—orderly, explainable, insurable.
He was sick to the point of death, and the prophet Isaiah said 'set your house in order, you're going to die.' Hezekiah prayed desperately, and God sent Isaiah BACK with a different message: 'I've heard your prayer, I've seen your tears—I'm adding 15 years to your life.' God healed him (using a poultice of figs, interestingly—divine AND natural), and the sundial went backward 10 degrees as a sign.
I REFUSE the lie that medical science has replaced divine healing, as if God retired when penicillin was invented. IT IS WRITTEN: 'I am the Lord who heals you'—present tense, active identity, not a historical role He used to fill. Doctors are a gift, but they are not my SOURCE—God is. IT IS WRITTEN that by His stripes I was healed, and that healing is part of the BARAK blessing of Abraham that I inherited through Christ. I don't have to choose between faith and medicine; I can receive healing from God's hand in whatever form He chooses. My body responds to the voice of the One who CREATED it. I receive supernatural healing NOW, whether it comes through medicine or in spite of it.
The Father isn't competing with your doctor for glory—He's the one who gave your doctor their knowledge in the first place. He's running toward you with healing power that transcends and includes every medical advance, wanting to flood your body with resurrection life. He's not offended that you took ibuprofen; He's just ready to do what ibuprofen CAN'T do—create new tissue, restore organs, reverse the irreversible.
