"Love is always conditional—I have to perform, be perfect, stay skinny, stay quiet to keep it."
How it sounds in your head: I see how people's warmth changes based on my grades, my weight, my mood, my usefulness. Love feels like a contract I'm always one mistake away from breaking. I'm so tired of auditioning for affection, but I don't know how to stop.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Enemy distorting God's character through performance-based human love + religious teaching that God's favor depends on behavior.
Every relationship in her young life has felt transactional—parental approval tied to achievement, peer acceptance tied to appearance, even church love that feels warmer when she's 'good.' She's never experienced love that stays when she fails.
A criminal being executed for actual crimes, mocking Jesus hours earlier—zero good works, zero baptism, zero cleanup, zero time to prove himself. He simply said, 'Remember me,' and Jesus said, 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise.' INSTANT. UNEARNED. SCANDALOUS.
I REFUSE the lie that love is conditional and I must perform to keep it. IT IS WRITTEN that God demonstrated His love while I was STILL a sinner—not after I got perfect, not after I proved myself, but IN THE MESS. His love is not a contract I can break; it's a COVENANT sealed in blood that doesn't fluctuate with my performance. I don't audition for the Father's affection—I already have it, fully and forever. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, which means His love doesn't withdraw when I fail. I am Abraham's seed, blessed with the BARAK blessing that covered liars and deceivers—how much more does it cover me in the BETTER covenant? I am unconditionally, irrevocably, scandalously LOVED.
The Father didn't throw a party for the prodigal after he completed a 90-day program and proved he'd changed. He threw it IMMEDIATELY, while the boy still reeked of pig farm, before any behavior modification. That's your Father—He doesn't love the cleaned-up version of you MORE; He loved you fully at your worst and nothing you do changes that measurement.
