"I've looked at things I shouldn't and now I'm permanently damaged goods."
How it sounds in your head: Once you see certain things, you can't unsee them. The images are burned into my brain. I feel like damaged merchandise that nobody would want if they knew. Like I've lost something I can never get back. God's probably given up on me being pure.
"Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord, though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
-- Isaiah 1:18Religious purity culture that treats sexual sin as uniquely damaging and creates categories of 'damaged' versus 'pure' people.
The images DO stay in your memory, which feels like permanent damage. Church culture often treats sexual sin as worse than other sins, creating a hierarchy where this feels unrecoverable.
Rahab was a professional prostitute—she didn't just look at things, she DID things for money. Yet God not only saved her but put her in the MESSIANIC LINE. She's one of only five women named in Jesus' genealogy. From prostitute to great-great-grandmother of King David to ancestor of JESUS. Not damaged. CHOSEN.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm permanently damaged by what I've seen. IT IS WRITTEN that though my sins are like scarlet, they shall be WHITE AS SNOW—not gray, not stained, but WHITE. The blood of Jesus doesn't categorize sins or leave me 'damaged goods.' IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that I am a NEW CREATION—old things have PASSED AWAY, all things have become NEW. That includes my mind, my purity, my identity. I am NOT defined by what I've seen but by what HE'S DONE. The BARAK blessing makes me WHOLE. I AM PURE IN CHRIST.
Your Father doesn't see you as damaged merchandise on the clearance shelf. He sees you as the pearl of great price He sold everything to buy. He's not counting your views or calculating your stains. He's clothing you in the robe of righteousness and calling you pure because HIS blood makes it so.
