"I need to make restitution and repair all the damage I caused before God can fully bless me."
How it sounds in your head: You hurt people. You broke trust. You owe apologies. You need to fix every relationship you damaged. Until you've made it right with everyone, God's blessing is on hold. You have karmic debt to pay.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Works-based theology that mistakes Old Covenant restitution requirements for New Covenant finished work and human repair for divine redemption.
She sees the damage trail behind her and feels responsible to fix it all. The Zacchaeus story is preached as 'repentance requires restitution.' Every boundary book emphasizes making amends.
The thief couldn't climb down and apologize to his victims, couldn't repay what he stole, couldn't repair the damage. He couldn't even get baptized. Yet Jesus said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise'—full access, zero restitution.
I REFUSE the lie that I must repair all damage before God blesses me. IT IS WRITTEN that He has FORGIVEN me all trespasses and wiped out the handwriting of requirements, nailing them to the cross. My debt certificate is CANCELLED. The thief on the cross received paradise with ZERO restitution. IT IS WRITTEN that I have been blessed with EVERY spiritual blessing in Christ—not 'will be blessed after I make amends.' I am Abraham's seed, blessed with the barak that isn't earned by repayment. I may choose to make amends from LOVE, but never from OBLIGATION. The Father isn't holding my blessing hostage until I fix my past.
The thief on the cross is proof that God's blessing isn't based on your ability to repair the past. He couldn't repay a single person he'd robbed, yet Jesus gave him Paradise THAT DAY.
