"The sexual sin I've battled for decades proves I was never really saved"
How it sounds in your head: You've been in church your whole life and still struggle with lust. Real Christians don't battle this at your age. You've prayed a thousand times and nothing changed. Maybe you never truly knew Him at all.
"O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
-- Romans 7:24-25Religious teaching that ongoing struggle equals false conversion, combined with male shame around sexual temptation in elder years
Decades of repeated failure in the same area makes you question if regeneration ever happened. Your generation was taught that victory should be complete and immediate, so ongoing struggle feels like proof of fake faith.
Samson repeatedly failed with sexual sin, even sleeping with a prostitute (Judges 16:1) and compromising with Delilah. Yet Hebrews 11:32 lists him in the FAITH HALL OF FAME, and God gave him strength one final time to defeat Israel's enemies—his sexual failure didn't disqualify his calling.
I REFUSE the lie that my ongoing struggle proves false salvation. IT IS WRITTEN that even Paul cried out about his wretched condition, yet found deliverance through Christ alone. My battle with temptation doesn't prove I'm dead—it proves I'm ALIVE to the Holy Spirit's conviction. Dead men don't fight; living branches connected to Jesus sense when they're depending on flesh instead of Spirit. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for those in Christ. I am sealed by the Holy Spirit, and nothing—not even my worst moment—can snatch me from the Father's hand. The BARAK blessing isn't based on my sexual purity but on COVENANT blood.
The Father doesn't measure your salvation by your victory rate—He measures it by Jesus' finished work. You're not trying to GET saved by overcoming; you're ALREADY saved and learning to abide, and even in your struggle, He's not disappointed but devoted to your freedom.
