"If people knew my body struggles - cutting, purging, starving - they'd say I don't really trust God."
How it sounds in your head: Your body issues are proof of weak faith. Other girls trust God with their appearance and struggles; you cope in secret destructive ways. If anyone found out you cut, throw up, or restrict, they'd know you're not really a believer. Your coping mechanisms disqualify your testimony.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Enemy accusation + religious oversimplification that 'just trust God' fixes everything + shame around mental health + body-image culture.
She's heard 'pray about it' for every problem and her secret behaviors feel like proof that prayer isn't working or she's not doing it right. The physical evidence of her struggle feels like spiritual failure.
Hannah was so distressed she wept in 'bitterness of soul,' refused to eat, and prayed so desperately the priest thought she was drunk - clear signs of deep emotional and physical struggle. God didn't condemn her coping; He heard her prayer that same day, gave her peace immediately, and opened her womb shortly after.
I REFUSE the lie that my body struggles disqualify my faith. IT IS WRITTEN that God's strength is made PERFECT in my weakness - not after I overcome it, but IN it. My coping mechanisms are not proof of spiritual failure; they're a cry for help that my Father hears with compassion. IT IS WRITTEN that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. I am not 'less than' because I struggle physically with emotional pain. The BARAK blessing of health and wholeness is mine by covenant, not by performance. God is not ashamed of me; He's running toward me with healing in His wings. I receive His grace in my weakness.
The Father doesn't see your cutting, purging, or restricting and think 'weak faith' - He sees a daughter in pain trying to cope the only way she knows how, and He's surrounding you with people who will help you find healthier ways while never shaming you for the old ones. His healing comes in His presence, not through your self-punishment.
