"I've embarrassed God in front of others by my failures"
How it sounds in your head: Everyone knew I was a Christian, and then they saw me drunk at that party. Or heard about what I did. Now I've made God look bad. I've humiliated Him publicly and He's ashamed to claim me.
"But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them."
-- Hebrews 11:16Source: Reputation theology that treats God like a fragile brand that requires PR management
He feels the weight of public failure—people who knew he was a believer saw him compromise, and the shame is crushing. The thought that he's damaged God's reputation makes the failure feel irredeemable.
Peter denied Jesus THREE times publicly, with cursing, in front of the fire while Jesus was on trial. The most embarrassing failure at the worst possible moment. Days later, Jesus restored him fully and made him the rock on which the Church was built.
I REFUSE the lie that I've embarrassed God. IT IS WRITTEN that God is NOT ASHAMED to be called their God—even when they failed publicly. My public failure doesn't make God hide from association with me. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:33-34 that it is GOD who justifies—who can bring a charge against me? Not my reputation. Not public opinion. GOD says I'm righteous. I am covered by the BARAK blessing of Abraham, who lied publicly and was STILL blessed. God doesn't need me to protect His brand. He's not ashamed of me. He CLAIMS me.
The Father doesn't cringe when people associate you with Him. He's not ashamed of you—He's proudly introducing Himself as your God, the same way He claimed Abraham the liar and Jacob the deceiver by name, publicly and permanently.
