"I'm too young to be this sick; I must have done something to cause this."
How it sounds in your head: Women my age are running marathons and climbing the career ladder. My body is betraying me in my thirties when I should be at my peak. Maybe it's because I didn't take care of myself well enough, worked too hard, stressed too much, ate the wrong things. This feels like punishment for not being more disciplined or health-conscious earlier. My peers are thriving; I'm falling apart.
"Jesus answered, 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.'"
-- John 9:3Enemy using shame and comparison to make her believe sickness is judgment for lifestyle failures or self-care inadequacy.
Social media shows her peers looking vibrant and healthy while she's in doctors' offices, making her feel like she's failing at the basic task of maintaining her body. At her age, sickness feels premature and therefore must be her fault—a consequence of choices that her 'successful' peers avoided.
The man had been sick for THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS—not from birth, meaning this happened in his adult life and consumed decades. Jesus didn't ask him what caused it, didn't require him to confess lifestyle failures, didn't make him prove he'd 'learned his lesson.' Jesus simply asked, 'Do you want to be made well?' and then said, 'Rise, take up your bed and walk.' The man was IMMEDIATELY healed—no analysis of cause, no shame, no process, just instant deliverance after 38 years.
I REFUSE the lie that my sickness is punishment for lifestyle failures or self-care inadequacy. IT IS WRITTEN that when disciples tried to blame sickness on someone's sin, Jesus said NEITHER—sickness is opportunity for God's works to be REVEALED, not evidence of my failure. I will not search my past for what I did wrong; I will DECLARE His promises over my future. IT IS WRITTEN that the man at Bethesda was instantly healed after 38 YEARS of sickness—Jesus didn't lecture him about prevention or self-care; He just said 'RISE' and the man WALKED. My body is not betraying me—my body is the TEMPLE of the Holy Spirit, and the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead DWELLS in me and gives LIFE to my mortal body. I am under the BARAK blessing that has nothing to do with my performance or discipline—it's COVENANT, not conduct!
Your Father isn't withholding healing until you figure out what you did wrong—He's the Jesus who healed the man who'd been sick for 38 years without one question about cause or one lecture about lifestyle. He's running toward you with the same immediate healing, not because you maintained your body perfectly, but because His NATURE is to heal and you are His beloved daughter, not a project to analyze but a person to RESTORE.
