"I'm too tired to do what God is calling me to; I need to rest."
How it sounds in your head: I feel this pull toward something—maybe ministry, maybe a business idea, maybe reconciliation—but I'm exhausted just thinking about it. Surely God understands I'm in my sixties. Maybe this is a season to step back, not step up.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
-- Matthew 11:28-30Religious spirit that presents God's assignments as burdens rather than the energizing invitation of sonship.
The gap between current energy and perceived requirement feels impossibly wide. Past attempts at 'trying harder' have resulted in burnout, making rest seem spiritual.
Both were 'well advanced in years' when the angel appeared with an impossible assignment—parenting the forerunner of the Messiah. Despite age and Elizabeth's barrenness, God didn't ask them to rest; He gave them the most energizing assignment of their lives, and they had the strength to raise a prophet.
I REFUSE the lie that God's calling will exhaust me. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus gives rest to the weary, and His yoke is EASY and His burden is LIGHT. If I feel exhausted considering His assignment, I'm thinking about it in my own strength—and apart from Him I can do nothing. But IN Him, fruit is AUTOMATIC. I am not striving to produce; I am abiding and watching Him work THROUGH me. IT IS WRITTEN that He who has begun a good work in me will complete it. I am blessed coming in and going out—the BARAK protects and energizes every assignment He authors.
The Father isn't asking you to summon energy you don't have—He's running toward you with an invitation to a yoke so perfectly fitted that it RESTORES rather than drains. What He calls you to, He energizes you for.
