"I'm too old to start over, and this misery is just what the rest of my ministry looks like."
How it sounds in your head: You're 55. You missed your window. Other people reinvent themselves in their twenties and thirties, but you've got maybe ten years left before retirement. This burnout, this disappointment, this exhaustion—this is just your reality now. Make peace with it.
"They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing."
-- Psalm 92:14World's system says productivity and possibility decline with age, contradicting Scripture's pattern of greatest assignments coming later.
Your body is tired. Your energy isn't what it was. You've watched younger leaders get opportunities while you're expected to 'finish well' in a role that's killing you. Starting over feels impossible when retirement is closer than your career midpoint.
Moses was 80 years old—past retirement age by any standard—when God called him to his greatest assignment: deliver an entire nation. He led for 40 MORE years and accomplished his life's purpose after age 80, not before.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too old for new assignments. IT IS WRITTEN that I shall bear fruit in OLD AGE and be FRESH and FLOURISHING. Moses was 80 when his ministry started. Abraham was 100 when his promise came. Anna was 84 when she prophesied the Messiah. IT IS WRITTEN that my youth is renewed like the eagle's, not that I decline into irrelevance. I declare the BARAK blessing over my fifties—this is not my decline; this is my FLOURISHING. My Father isn't done writing my story; He's just turning to the best chapters.
The Father is saying, 'I've been preparing you for fifty years for what I'm about to do THROUGH you, not in spite of your age but BECAUSE of your age. Watch what I do with seasoned wood.'
