"I'm too old and tired to hear God's voice; that's for younger, sharper believers."
How it sounds in your head: Your mind isn't what it used to be. Sometimes you can't remember what you had for breakfast. How are you supposed to discern God's voice when you can barely track conversations? Hearing from God requires clarity and focus you no longer have.
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."
-- John 10:27Enemy leveraging cognitive decline to sever intimacy with Father; lie that relationship with God requires mental performance.
You've noticed the memory slips, the confusion, the fog. If you can't trust your own thoughts, how can you trust what you're hearing from God?
Simeon was an OLD man who had been waiting for decades to see the Messiah. The Holy Spirit REVEALED to him that he wouldn't die until he saw the Lord's Christ. When Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple, the Spirit LED Simeon there at exactly the right moment—his aging mind heard God perfectly and recognized Jesus INSTANTLY.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too old to hear God's voice. IT IS WRITTEN that His sheep hear His voice—John 10:27—and I am His sheep. My ability to hear Him is not based on cognitive performance but on covenant relationship. IT IS WRITTEN that the righteous still bear fruit in old age, remaining fresh and flourishing. The Holy Spirit who lives in me doesn't require a sharp mind—He requires a yielded heart, and mine is His. I hear my Father's voice with GREATER clarity now because I've learned to quiet everything else. Age hasn't disqualified me from intimacy—it's prepared me for it.
Your Father doesn't need you sharp to speak to you—He's been whispering to sleeping babies and speaking through donkeys. He's closer now than ever, and the veil between you and Him is thinner with every day. He's not frustrated by your fog—He's IN it with you, guiding every step.
