"I'm disappearing piece by piece—my memory, my strength, even my name feels like it belongs to someone else."
How it sounds in your head: I forget what I was saying mid-sentence. I can't remember my grandson's birthday. Sometimes I look at my own hands and they look like stranger's hands. I'm losing myself bit by bit and soon there will be nothing left. Who am I if I can't remember who I was?
"But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.'"
-- Isaiah 43:1Enemy exploiting cognitive decline and physical aging to attack core identity rooted in Christ, not memory.
Real memory issues, moments of confusion, physical changes that feel like losing herself. Dementia fears are legitimate and terrifying at this age.
Struck mute for nine months, unable to speak his own name or communicate who he was. The moment his son was born, his voice returned INSTANTLY and he prophesied—what looked like permanent loss was reversed in a moment when God's timing was right.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm disappearing or losing myself. IT IS WRITTEN that God has called me by NAME and I am HIS—my identity is not in my memory but in His. Even if I forget, He NEVER forgets who I am. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 139:16 that all my days were written in His book before one of them came to be—He knows every moment, even the ones I can't recall. My value is not in cognitive ability but in COVENANT. The BARAK blessing doesn't depend on memory; I am blessed, called, and treasured regardless of what I can or cannot remember. I declare I am HELD in the palm of an unforgetting God.
The Father doesn't panic when you forget. He's not frustrated or disappointed. He holds every memory you've lost like precious photographs, and one day in eternity He'll show them all back to you in perfect clarity. Until then, He whispers 'I remember FOR you.'
