"I'm a burden to everyone around me because of what I require."
How it sounds in your head: You see the extra effort your wife makes, the accommodations required, the plans that change because of your needs. You're not adding value—you're subtracting convenience. A real man carries weight; he doesn't create it.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Source: world's efficiency culture that measures worth by independence and ease, making dependence feel like failure.
You notice every accommodation, every adjustment, every moment someone has to help. The internal ledger keeps counting what you cost versus what you contribute, and the balance feels perpetually negative.
Born blind, disciples asked whose sin caused it. Jesus said NEITHER—he was born this way so God's works could be revealed through him. Instant healing with mud and a wash—his lifelong limitation became the stage for undeniable glory.
I REFUSE the lie that I am a burden to those around me. IT IS WRITTEN: His strength is made PERFECT in my weakness. My dependence creates the environment for His power to be displayed. I am not defined by what I require but by what flows THROUGH me. Every person is completely dependent on God; I just cannot hide it. IT IS WRITTEN: the branch produces nothing apart from the Vine. Connection, not independence, is the goal. I am deeply loved, fully valuable, and positioned exactly where God's glory shines brightest through contrast.
The Father isn't keeping a ledger of what you cost others—He's orchestrating how your life becomes the canvas for His sufficiency to shine. He's running toward you with the declaration that your value has NOTHING to do with your independence and EVERYTHING to do with your identity as His beloved son.
