"I'm a burden now instead of a blessing to my family."
How it sounds in your head: I should be the matriarch blessing my children and grandchildren, not needing their help. I'm supposed to leave an inheritance, not debt. They're embarrassed by me. I've become what I feared—a needy old woman.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Cultural lie about aging combined with performance-based identity, denying that her value is IN CHRIST, not in what she provides.
She sees her daughter's forced smile, feels the shift when money topics arise, and compares herself to friends who are funding grandkids' activities. Needing help at this age feels like failure.
Blew his entire inheritance on prostitutes, came home broke, dirty, desperate, completely depleted. Father RAN to him, didn't let him finish his speech, gave him robe, ring, sandals, threw a party. From total need to full restoration in approximately 15 minutes.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm a burden or that my value is in what I provide. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 12:9 that God's strength is made PERFECT in my weakness—my neediness is where His power RESTS. The prodigal came home with NOTHING and the Father threw a party. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 that there is NO CONDEMNATION for those in Christ. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing flows through me not because of my bank account but because of COVENANT. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. My Father runs toward me with robe and ring, celebrating my IDENTITY, not my income.
Your Father doesn't see a burden—He sees a daughter He gets to LAVISH with love. The same Father who ran toward a broke, pig-smelling son and threw a party is running toward you with provision, celebration, and restoration that has nothing to do with what you bring.
