"I'm a burden at mealtimes—watching me eat is unpleasant for everyone around me."
How it sounds in your head: You see them look away when you drool. The mess. The sounds. Your grandson asked why you eat funny. Family meals used to be YOUR domain. Now you're the awkward medical event everyone has to navigate around.
"Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me."
-- Matthew 25:40Shame spirit using dignity loss to isolate and convince you that presence has become burden instead of gift.
Eating IS messy now—you can't control it like you used to. People DO have to help. Conversation stops when you need assistance. You've become the thing that disrupts what used to flow naturally.
Crippled in both feet, couldn't walk, needed help for everything including eating. King David brought him to eat at the king's table CONTINUALLY. His disability didn't disqualify him—it gave him a PERMANENT seat at the royal feast.
I REFUSE the lie that my presence at mealtimes is a burden to those around me. IT IS WRITTEN that when they serve me, they serve JESUS Himself—I'm giving them honor, not taking dignity. My seat at the table is APPOINTED by the King, just like Mephibosheth who ate continually at David's table despite his limitations. IT IS WRITTEN that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, EVEN NOW, even in this condition. My family doesn't endure me—they're BLESSED by serving Christ in me. I receive their help as WORSHIP, and I give them the gift of loving me well.
The Father doesn't see a messy eater. He sees a beloved son receiving provision from the family He designed. Every spoonful someone helps you with is a KISS from Heaven, orchestrated by a Father who loves watching His kids love each other.
