"I'll never be able to believe someone when they say they care"
How it sounds in your head: Words are just words. People say 'I love you' and 'I'll always be here' but they don't mean it. Actions proved the words were lies. Now when someone says they care, all I hear is the countdown to when they'll prove they don't.
"God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?"
-- Numbers 23:19Enemy using past false promises to deafen her to genuine declarations of love, making trust impossible
She's heard 'I care' from people who then betrayed her, so her brain treats all such statements as lies. The pain of believing and being wrong feels unbearable, so skepticism seems safer.
Thomas said 'I will NOT believe unless I see'—he'd been burned by false hope when Jesus died. Jesus didn't rebuke his doubt; He showed up specifically FOR Thomas, invited him to touch the wounds, and said 'Do not be unbelieving, but believing.' Doubt was met with PROOF, not condemnation.
I REFUSE the lie that I can't believe when people say they care! IT IS WRITTEN that God is not a man that He should lie—when the Father says He loves me, it's TRUTH, not a setup. People may have lied with their words, but He never will. I am learning to distinguish between human failure and divine faithfulness. IT IS WRITTEN that He cannot lie, so every promise He speaks over me is GUARANTEED. God is teaching me to hear HIS voice of love above the echoes of past betrayal, and He's bringing people whose words actually MATCH their actions. I am not gullible for believing again; I am BRAVE. My ability to receive love is being restored RIGHT NOW.
The Father sees you flinch when someone says 'I love you' and He's not frustrated—He's gently proving that HIS 'I love you' comes with ACTION, not just words. He's healing your ability to believe by being the One who NEVER lies, and then sending people who reflect His integrity.
