"I'll just be settling for companionship, not real love like I had before."
How it sounds in your head: If I did find someone, it wouldn't be the same. It would just be practical - someone to eat dinner with, to not be alone. Not real romance. Just settling because I'm scared of dying alone.
"Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!"
-- John 2:10Enemy devaluing future blessing by comparison to past blessing - lie that God's best came first and everything after is downgrade.
The deep love of a decades-long marriage feels irreplaceable. The thought of starting over with someone new feels like accepting a counterfeit or participation trophy rather than the real thing.
The Samaritan woman had five husbands and was living with a sixth man - complete relational devastation and failure. Then she met Jesus at the well and found the love that satisfied every thirst. Her GREATEST love came AFTER her worst failures.
I REFUSE the lie that any future love would be settling or downgrade. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus saved the good wine for LAST - God doesn't operate on declining trajectory. My Father doesn't do participation trophies or consolation prizes. IT IS WRITTEN that the woman at the well found her GREATEST love after five failures. The BARAK blessing doesn't diminish over time - it MULTIPLIES. I am not settling - I am POSITIONED for something that will surprise me with goodness. Different doesn't mean lesser - it means NEW glory.
Your Father isn't handing you a downgrade to stop your complaining. He's preparing something RICH and FULL that will honor your past while creating new joy - and you'll be shocked at how GOOD the good wine He saved really is.
