"I'll always be in recovery. There's no such thing as 'recovered.'"
How it sounds in your head: They told me to introduce myself as 'in recovery' until I die. Never 'recovered'—always recovering. Even at 90, I'm still just managing, never free. That's my identity forever.
"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
-- John 8:36Source: program theology that makes the journey the destination, turning recovery into a perpetual treadmill instead of Christ's finished work.
He's said 'I'm in recovery' thousands of times. The program insists you're never 'done.' Saying 'I'm recovered' feels prideful or naïve. The system taught him that freedom is a process without an endpoint.
A man so violently possessed that chains couldn't hold him, living naked among tombs, cutting himself with stones—utterly enslaved. One encounter with Jesus—IMMEDIATELY the demons fled, and he was found 'sitting, clothed, and in his right mind.' Not 'improving.' Not 'in recovery.' CLOTHED and IN HIS RIGHT MIND. Instant. Complete.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm forever 'in recovery.' IT IS WRITTEN that if the Son makes me free, I am FREE INDEED. I am not perpetually healing—I am HEALED. I am not becoming whole—I AM whole in Christ. IT IS WRITTEN in Colossians 2:10 that I am COMPLETE in Him. Not completing. COMPLETE. I am not an addict in recovery—I am a NEW CREATION who is FREE. The BARAK blessing over my life declares FREEDOM, not bondage. I am RECOVERED because HE recovered me.
The Father doesn't see you as a project always in progress—He sees you as FINISHED in Christ, complete, lacking nothing. The prodigal wasn't put on a 'road to restoration'—the robe, ring, and sandals came IMMEDIATELY because the Father's love is complete NOW, not later.
