"If people really knew me—all my thoughts, needs, and struggles—they'd run. I have to hide parts of myself to keep relationships."
How it sounds in your head: You show people the edited version because you KNOW the real you is too much. The anxious you, the needy you, the struggling you—that version would send everyone away. So you perform.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Shame curse from rejection wounds, teaching that true self equals abandonment, plus religious performance culture that demands 'having it together.'
She's tested the waters of vulnerability and felt people pull back. In her fifties with so much happening internally—health fears, marriage questions, identity shifts—she feels certain her real self is unlovable.
She had five failed marriages and was living with a man—complete scandal, exactly the 'too much baggage' person others avoided. Jesus didn't wait for her to clean up; He sought HER out, revealed He knew EVERYTHING about her, and still offered living water. She went from hiding to IMMEDIATE evangelism in one conversation.
I REFUSE the lie that I must hide to be loved! IT IS WRITTEN that while I was still a sinner, Christ died for me—God KNOWS everything and loves me FULLY! I don't have to perform or edit myself; I am already ACCEPTED in the Beloved. IT IS WRITTEN that I am FULLY KNOWN and FULLY LOVED. The BARAK blessing covers the REAL me, not just the presentable version. I don't have to hide my struggles to keep relationships; I get to be SEEN. I am not too much when people know the truth; I am LOVED in the truth. I am SAFE to be fully myself!
The Father doesn't love the version of you that has it together. He loves the REAL you—the messy, struggling, deeply-feeling you—and He's running toward that woman with open arms, not waiting for you to fix yourself first.
