"If people knew the real me, they'd see I'm still messed up"
How it sounds in your head: You've got the 'clean' image now — going to church, helping others, maybe even leading. But inside, you still have thoughts, temptations, moments where you feel like the same broken guy. If they saw the REAL you — the intrusive thoughts, the struggles you don't admit, the darkness you still feel sometimes — they'd reject you. You're a fraud in recovery clothes.
"There is therefore now NO condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus."
-- Romans 8:1Enemy's accusation that RIGHTEOUSNESS is performance-based and internal struggles disqualify you
You DO still have thoughts you're ashamed of. Temptation hasn't disappeared. You feel like everyone else is 'further along' and you're faking it. Vulnerability feels like exposure. Church culture rewards 'victory stories,' not ongoing struggles. You feel like you're one honest moment away from losing respect.
David committed adultery, murdered the woman's husband to cover it up, and lived in denial until confronted. His internal darkness was EXPOSED publicly — entire nation knew. God's response? Discipline, yes, but also: 'The Lord has taken away your sin.' David still called 'a man after God's own heart' AFTER this. His Psalms became SCRIPTURE. His darkness didn't disqualify his destiny.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm a fraud because I still struggle internally. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus — not 'less condemnation when I feel clean,' NO condemnation. My righteousness isn't based on my internal weather but on my POSITION in Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that I have become the RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD in Him. Like David was called 'a man after God's own heart' even AFTER his darkest sins were exposed, I am not disqualified by my struggles. I am RIGHTEOUS, ACCEPTED, and BELOVED — not because I've arrived internally, but because I'm IN CHRIST. The Father sees me covered by Jesus' perfection, and that's my IDENTITY.
Father doesn't see your internal struggles as disqualifying — He sees you IN CHRIST, covered by His righteousness. Like David wrote Psalms that became SCRIPTURE even after his worst sins, Father is saying to you: 'Your struggle doesn't disqualify you. Your HONESTY positions you to help others. You're not a fraud — you're REAL, and I love real.'
