"Everyone will always see me as the addict—I can't escape the label."
How it sounds in your head: Your family knows. Your youth group knows. Coach knows. That's the first thing people think when they see you now. You'll always be 'the kid with the problem.' Even if you're clean for years, they'll remember. The label is permanent.
"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
-- Isaiah 43:18-19Source: Shame culture and small-town gossip making human opinion louder than God's declaration of righteousness.
You see the look in people's eyes when they find out. The whispers. The extra supervision. The 'how are you REALLY doing?' with that tone. They're always waiting for you to relapse.
Known throughout Jericho as 'Rahab the HARLOT'—her profession was her identity. One act of faith and God INSTANTLY rewrote her story—she's in the MESSIANIC LINE, honored in Hebrews 11, no longer called harlot but HERO.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm permanently labeled by my past. IT IS WRITTEN that God says 'Do not remember the former things—I am doing a NEW THING, NOW.' I am not what people remember—I am who GOD declares me to be: RIGHTEOUS, REDEEMED, RESTORED. Their opinion is not my identity. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a NEW CREATION—old things PASSED AWAY. The same God who turned Rahab the harlot into a hero in the Messianic line has rewritten MY story. I am not the addict—I am the SON. The BARAK makes me BLESSED, not labeled.
The Father doesn't call you by your past—He calls you by your DESTINY. When He looks at you, He doesn't see 'the addict trying to stay clean.' He sees His RIGHTEOUS SON, spotless, honored, celebrated. Their labels are noise—HIS voice is TRUTH.
