"If I'm really trusting God, I shouldn't care about money or financial security anymore."
How it sounds in your head: Real faith means I wouldn't worry about finances. If I'm still thinking about money and provision, maybe my trust isn't where it should be after all these years. I should be above these earthly concerns by now.
"Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
-- Matthew 6:31-33Source: Religious teaching that confused trust in God with passivity about provision, making wise stewardship and expectation of blessing seem like lack of faith.
Decades of teaching have told him that caring about finances reveals weak faith. He's confused the peace of trusting God as provider with pretending provision doesn't matter or that desiring it is unspiritual.
God told Elijah, 'I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.' Elijah still had to EAT—his trust didn't eliminate his need for provision. God SUPERNATURALLY provided, but the provision was still REAL and NECESSARY.
I REFUSE the lie that trusting God means I shouldn't care about provision. IT IS WRITTEN that my Father KNOWS I need these things and will ADD them to me. Trusting Him doesn't mean detachment—it means confident expectation of His faithful provision. I am under the BARAK blessing where God COMMANDS blessing on my storehouses. IT IS WRITTEN that He takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. My desire for provision is agreement with His promise, not evidence of weak faith.
Your Father doesn't look at your need for provision and think 'he should be above this by now.' He looks at your needs with the same commitment He had when He fed 5,000—MORE than enough, with baskets left over.
