"If I were more spiritual, I wouldn't be afraid—my fear proves I don't really trust God."
How it sounds in your head: Real Christians aren't afraid to die. They have peace and joy. I'm scared, which means my faith is fake. After 90 years, I should have this figured out. My fear is proof I failed at being a believer.
"Then He said to them, 'My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.'"
-- Matthew 26:38Religious condemnation disguised as spiritual maturity assessment—making fear a sin instead of a human emotion Jesus Himself experienced.
Other believers seem peaceful, sermons say 'fear not 365 times,' and the gap between ideal and reality feels like spiritual failure.
Jesus, perfect and sinless, was so overwhelmed facing death that He sweat drops of BLOOD and begged the Father three times to find another way. God didn't rebuke His fear—He sent an angel to STRENGTHEN Him. Fear + faith coexisted in the Son of God.
I REFUSE the lie that my fear proves my faith is fake. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus Himself was sorrowful to the point of death and sweat drops of blood—and He is the AUTHOR and FINISHER of my faith. If the Son of God felt fear, I am allowed to feel fear. IT IS WRITTEN that perfect love casts out fear, and God IS perfecting His love in me even now. My faith is not measured by my feelings but by HIS FAITHFULNESS. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, walking in the BARAK blessing, covered by the blood, held by the Shepherd. Fear may knock, but it does NOT define me. I am His beloved daughter, and He is WITH me—that is enough.
The Father is NOT shaking His head at your fear saying 'I expected better.' He's wrapping His arms around you like He did in Gethsemane, sending angels to STRENGTHEN you, whispering 'I know you're scared—I've got you. I'm not letting go.'
