"I'm being punished for not being content as a childless woman—I should just accept it."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe God wants me to be like the unmarried missionaries who 'gave up' children for His kingdom. Maybe wanting a baby is selfish and worldly. Maybe I'm supposed to find fulfillment in other things and stop making motherhood an idol.
"Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister, and said to Jacob, 'Give me children, or else I die!'"
-- Genesis 30:1Religion confused godly desire with worldly idolatry, making you feel guilty for wanting what God Himself designed you to want.
You've been told 'God is enough' so many times that wanting anything else feels like betraying Him. It seems holier to accept barrenness than to fight for breakthrough.
Desperate to the point of saying 'give me children or I'll die,' envious and tormented by her sister's fertility—God didn't tell her to be content in barrenness. He REMEMBERED her and opened her womb. She conceived Joseph, and later Benjamin.
I REFUSE the lie that wanting a baby makes me selfish or discontent. IT IS WRITTEN that Rachel cried 'give me children or I die' and God OPENED her womb—He didn't rebuke her desire; He FULFILLED it. IT IS WRITTEN that God grants the barren woman a home, like a joyful mother of children. This desire is FROM Him, not against Him. I am not wrong for wanting what God designed me to want. I am BLESSED under covenant, and the blessing includes the fruit of my womb. I receive children NOW as a gift, not an idol.
The Father isn't asking you to be content in emptiness—He's the one who placed the longing for children in your heart and delights in filling it. While you're trying to accept barrenness as holy, He's already running toward you with the promise of full arms.
