Churches preach this constantly, and it sounds like a clear cause-and-effect formula. He wants a concrete action he can DO to fix the problem, and tithing feels like controlling the outcome.
A Roman centurion (Gentile, not Jewish, not under the law, definitely not tithing to the temple) came to Jesus about his sick servant. Jesus marveled at his faith and said He hadn't found such great faith in all Israel - then healed his servant instantly that very hour. This man received massive breakthrough (healing that saved his servant's life) with ZERO tithing, zero law-keeping, zero religious performance. Faith accessed grace, not percentage-giving.
I REFUSE the lie that tithing is how I earn blessing! IT IS WRITTEN: I give as I purpose in my heart, not out of religious necessity or to twist God's arm. I'm under the GRACE covenant, not the law covenant. Abraham was blessed BEFORE tithing existed - his blessing was by promise, not performance. IT IS WRITTEN: Christ redeemed me from the curse and gave me the blessing of Abraham through covenant, not through my giving percentage. I give cheerfully because I'm ALREADY blessed, not to GET blessed. My financial breakthrough comes from Jesus' finished work, not from my wallet! The BARAK protects me because of HIS faithfulness, not mine. I receive abundance NOW by grace through faith!
Your Father isn't sitting in heaven with a calculator checking if you gave exactly 10% before He'll move on your behalf - He's running toward you with blessing based on covenant, not calculations. The prodigal received everything having given nothing, because that's the scandal of grace.
