"If I tell people I'm free, I'm being arrogant and setting myself up for a fall. Humility means calling myself an addict forever."
How it sounds in your head: You've seen guys declare 'I'm healed!' and relapse within weeks. The old-timers warn against pride—'Keep coming back, don't get cocky.' You feel safer identifying as broken because claiming freedom feels like tempting fate. What if you're wrong? Better to hedge your bets and stay humble.
"And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life."
-- 1 John 5:11-12Source: false humility religion that confuses weakness with meekness and makes ongoing brokenness a virtue instead of denying Christ's finished work.
You've watched confident declarations followed by spectacular crashes, and the 'one day at a time' mantra feels safer than bold claims. Calling yourself an addict feels humble; calling yourself free feels dangerously proud.
Bartimaeus was a blind beggar—that was his identity and income source. Jesus healed him instantly and he 'followed Jesus on the road.' Did he say 'I'm Bartimaeus, recovering blind person, one day at a time I'm managing my sight'? No. He declared his healing and immediately changed his behavior—no beggar's cloak, no hesitation.
I REFUSE the lie that humility means denying Christ's finished work. IT IS WRITTEN that I HAVE life, I HAVE freedom, I HAVE been made NEW—declaring this isn't arrogance, it's AGREEMENT with God's Word. False humility that contradicts Scripture is actually PRIDE disguised as meekness. I am not an addict in Christ any more than I'm a sinner in Christ—I am a SAINT who sometimes sins, a FREE MAN who remembers slavery. IT IS WRITTEN I am the righteousness of God in Christ, blessed under the barak covenant that can't be broken by my behavior. I boldly declare: I AM FREE. Not will be—AM.
The Father isn't honored when you diminish what His Son's blood accomplished. He's honored when you BOLDLY declare the freedom He paid for, when you wear your identity as BELOVED SON without apology or qualification.
