"If I succeed, I'm betraying my family by doing better than they did."
How it sounds in your head: My parents struggled financially and emotionally, and now I'm on a different trajectory. But success feels like showing off or proving they failed. I feel guilty for wanting more than they had, like I'm saying they weren't good enough.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
-- John 10:10Source: Survivor's guilt and a twisted loyalty that equates your success with judgment on their failure, keeping you small to stay connected.
You've maybe seen resentment or comments when you share good news. Success highlights the gap, and you don't want to wound them or make them feel 'less than.' Staying small feels like solidarity.
Joseph's brothers were shepherds living in tents. Joseph became second-in-command of EGYPT, wearing royal robes, riding chariots, having entire cities bow before him. He didn't shrink his success to match their level—his ABUNDANCE eventually SAVED them. His elevation didn't betray them; it DELIVERED them.
I REFUSE the lie that my success is a betrayal of my family. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus came to give me ABUNDANT life—not moderate life to avoid making others uncomfortable. God doesn't shrink me to comfort others; He ELEVATES me to display His goodness. IT IS WRITTEN that the BARAK blessing includes PLENTY—surplus, overflow, more than enough. My abundance doesn't diminish them; it demonstrates God's faithfulness and can open doors FOR them. I declare that I am FREE to succeed fully, prosper wildly, and walk in every promise without guilt. I am blessed RIGHT NOW.
The Father isn't asking you to stay small so your family feels comfortable. He's promoting you BECAUSE He loves you, and your elevation is part of His plan to bless THEM through you. He sees your hesitation and says, 'Daughter, take the ring, the robe, the authority—your abundance is My gift, and it glorifies Me.'
