"If I really believed, I wouldn't need to ask God repeatedly - my repetition proves doubt."
How it sounds in your head: I keep praying for the same things over and over. If I had real faith, I'd ask once and trust. The fact that I keep asking must mean I don't really believe God heard me the first time. My repetition is evidence of unbelief.
"Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart."
-- Luke 18:1Religious misinterpretation of 'ask once in faith' making persistence PROOF of doubt instead of proof of tenacity.
You hear your own voice asking again and the enemy says 'Still asking? Must not believe it worked the first time.' Persistence feels like evidence of faithlessness instead of faithfulness.
This woman cried out for her daughter's healing. Jesus was SILENT. She persisted. He said 'I was not sent to you.' She persisted. He called her a dog. She STILL persisted - 'Even dogs eat crumbs.' Jesus called it GREAT FAITH and healed her daughter instantly. Persistence WAS her faith.
I REFUSE the lie that asking repeatedly proves doubt. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus taught we 'ought ALWAYS to pray and not lose heart.' The persistent widow's repetition was PRAISED, not rebuked. IT IS WRITTEN that the Syrophoenician woman persisted through silence, rejection, and insult - Jesus called it GREAT faith. My repetition is relationship, not doubt. I am Abraham's seed under the BARAK - I can ask boldly, repeatedly, confidently. I am heard the first time AND I can keep asking because I'm a child talking to Father, not a servant performing once.
The Father doesn't interpret your repeated prayers as evidence of doubt - He sees them like a father sees his child asking 'Are we there yet? Are we there yet?' on a road trip. It's not doubt; it's anticipation, relationship, trust that Dad is taking you somewhere good and you can't wait to arrive.
