"If I just prayed more or worshiped harder, my mental health would improve"
How it sounds in your head: People say 'take it to Jesus' like it's a magic formula. I do, and I still wake up depressed. Maybe I'm not doing it right. Maybe I need to pray longer, worship louder, fast more.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
-- Matthew 11:28Religion turned spiritual disciplines into formulas for healing, making mental health about performance instead of presence.
She's heard testimonies of people 'praying through' depression and feels like she's failing at something that should work. Every worship song about breakthrough feels like mockery.
Paul prayed THREE TIMES for his 'thorn in the flesh' to be removed. God said NO—'My grace is sufficient.' Paul didn't pray harder or worship louder. He learned that God's power works THROUGH weakness, not after it's removed.
I REFUSE the lie that more spiritual effort equals healing. IT IS WRITTEN in Matthew 11:28 that Jesus gives rest to the weary, not more tasks. Paul prayed three times and God said 'My grace is sufficient'—healing isn't about intensity. IT IS WRITTEN that I come to Him as I am, not as I should be. My mental health isn't earned by spiritual performance—it's covered by covenant. The BARAK blessing flows from His nature, not my effort. The Father is wrapping me in rest, not demanding more work.
The Father didn't make the prodigal earn his way back into the house with extra chores or spiritual disciplines. He RAN to him, threw a party, and restored everything INSTANTLY. He's doing the same for you—no spiritual performance required.
