"If I eat what I want, I'll lose control and become disgusting."
How it sounds in your head: You can't trust yourself around food. If you let yourself eat freely, you'll just keep eating and eating until you're gross. You have to stay in control or you'll ruin everything.
"For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit."
-- Romans 14:17Religious law mentality applied to food—turning eating into sin management system instead of gift enjoyment.
You've seen adults talk about 'being bad' with food or 'losing control,' so it seems like food really IS dangerous. Plus, sometimes when you're stressed you DO eat more, which feels like proof.
Religious people criticized Jesus for eating and drinking freely—they called Him a 'glutton and a winebibber.' Jesus didn't defend Himself or restrict His eating to prove them wrong. He just kept eating with joy and freedom because He knew the Father's heart about food.
I REFUSE the lie that food is my enemy or that I can't trust myself around it. IT IS WRITTEN that the kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy—not food rules and fear. I have the Holy Spirit living IN me, and He's perfectly capable of guiding my eating without me white-knuckling control. IT IS WRITTEN that every creature of God is good and nothing is to be refused with thanksgiving. I am not an out-of-control animal—I am a son led by the Spirit, and He leads me into PEACE with food, not obsession. I eat with joy and freedom because that's how sons eat at their Father's table.
The Father isn't nervously watching your plate thinking 'I hope he doesn't lose control.' He's delighting in watching you ENJOY the food He made for you, the same way you delight watching a kid enjoy a gift you gave them. He WANTS you to eat with freedom and joy.
