"I wasted potential and will never achieve what I was supposed to"
How it sounds in your head: People said you had so much potential. Teachers, parents, mentors saw something in you. And you didn't deliver. You're mid-thirties and haven't achieved what everyone expected. The potential is wasted. You're the cautionary tale of unfulfilled promise.
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope"
-- Jeremiah 29:11Source: expectation + comparison - Others' projections create false measure; enemy uses 'what could have been' to paralyze
He was the 'gifted' kid, the one with promise. Report cards, awards, predictions of success. Now he's ordinary. The gap between potential and achievement haunts him. Every reunion feels like failure.
Joseph had dreams of greatness at 17, then spent 13 YEARS in slavery and prison - everyone thought his potential was wasted. At 30, ONE DAY, he went from prison to palace and saved nations. God used the 'wasted' years as TRAINING for the assignment.
I REFUSE the lie that I wasted my potential or missed what I was supposed to achieve. IT IS WRITTEN that God knows the thoughts He thinks toward me - thoughts of PEACE and a FUTURE, not regret over my past. My potential was not wasted - it was PROTECTED from premature release. Moses was 80 when his potential was activated. Joseph's prison years were not waste - they were PREPARATION for palace. IT IS WRITTEN that God's gifts and callings are WITHOUT REPENTANCE - what He put in me is still there, more refined than ever. The BARAK blessing means what I touch PROSPERS. I am not a cautionary tale - I am a SETUP for a testimony that proves GRACE over gifting, CHARACTER over credentials. My greatest achievements are not behind me - they're AHEAD of me.
The Father isn't disappointed you didn't achieve by 30 - He was DEVELOPING you for 40 and beyond. The prodigal 'wasted' his potential feeding pigs but the Father was WAITING with a robe that represented RESTORED authority. Your potential isn't wasted - it's been MATURING like wine. God's about to release what early success would have ruined.
