"I was the victim of something terrible, so I'll always be defined as 'the girl that happened to.'"
How it sounds in your head: Something bad happened to me that wasn't my fault. Now when people look at me, I wonder if that's all they see. Am I forever 'the girl who got hurt' or 'the girl that happened to'? Will I ever just be ME again, or is that trauma now my identity? I feel stuck in victim mode.
"Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us."
-- Romans 8:37Enemy using trauma to create permanent victim identity, opposing the truth that Christ makes us MORE than conquerors regardless of what happened TO us.
Trauma is real and its effects are real, and well-meaning people may treat her differently now, reinforcing the feeling that she's been permanently changed. The memory feels like it's written on her forehead for everyone to see.
Joseph was stripped, thrown in a pit, sold as a slave by his own brothers, falsely accused of rape, and imprisoned for years for a crime he didn't commit. He didn't become 'Joseph the victim.' He became JOSEPH THE DELIVERER who saved nations. He told his brothers, 'You meant evil, but God meant it for GOOD.'
I REFUSE the lie that trauma is my identity. IT IS WRITTEN that I am MORE than a conqueror through Christ who loves me. What happened TO me does not define me—what Jesus DID FOR me defines me. I am not 'the girl that happened to.' I am the DAUGHTER OF THE KING, crowned with glory and honor. The enemy meant that event to destroy me, but IT IS WRITTEN that God works ALL THINGS for my good. I am an OVERCOMER. I am VICTORIOUS. I am blessed with the BARAK blessing that turns even attacks into testimonies. I am writing a story of TRIUMPH, not trauma. That event is my PAST, not my FUTURE.
Your Father didn't wait for you to 'heal completely' before calling you conqueror—He called you MORE than conqueror while the wound was still fresh. He's running toward you not with pity but with a CROWN, because in His eyes you're not the wounded one. You're the VICTORIOUS one, and He's already written the chapter where this becomes your greatest testimony.
