"My criminal record defines who I am and what I can become"
How it sounds in your head: Every job application asks about it. Every background check flags it. You'll never escape what you did. That DUI, that arrest, that stupid mistake when you were 18—it's a scarlet letter you'll wear forever. Even if you change, the world sees you as what you were.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Source: world system that profits from permanent labeling and second-class citizenship for past offenders
Background checks are literal barriers. He sees opportunities close when his past surfaces, peers moving forward while he's explaining himself. The legal system itself seems designed to make past mistakes permanent identities.
Manasseh practiced witchcraft, sacrificed his own sons to demons, filled Jerusalem with innocent blood—worst king in Judah's history. God instantly forgave him in prison, restored him to the throne, and he's listed in Jesus's genealogy—past atrocities became footnote to God's grace.
I REFUSE the lie that my past record defines my future. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a new creation—old things HAVE passed away, ALL things HAVE become new. My identity is not criminal; my identity is CHRIST'S RIGHTEOUSNESS. The BARAK blessing that protected murderers and liars in the Old Covenant protects me infinitely more under the blood. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus—no human system can condemn what Heaven has acquitted. I am the head and not the tail, blessed coming in and going out, regardless of what any background check says.
The Father doesn't run a background check before embracing you. He saw every mistake before you made it, and still RAN toward you with the robe of righteousness and the ring of authority—your past didn't even slow Him down.
