"I trusted a pastor and he let me down—I'll never trust church leadership again."
How it sounds in your head: He said he cared, then ghosted when I needed him. Or worse—he used me for free labor, made me feel special, then moved on to the next volunteer. Maybe he fell into sin publicly and now I question everything he taught me.
"It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man."
-- Psalm 118:8Source: trauma from spiritual authority figure who wounded instead of shepherded, compounded by enemy's strategy to sever you from godly covering.
You texted him during a crisis and he never responded, or you watched him preach purity then get caught in an affair. The man who was supposed to represent God showed you the opposite, and now every altar call feels like manipulation.
Mark abandoned Paul and Barnabas mid-mission, causing such a sharp disagreement that Paul refused to take him again—yet years later Paul wrote 'Mark is useful to me for ministry.' One failure didn't define him; restoration was complete and instant when Paul needed him.
I REFUSE the lie that I can never trust spiritual leaders again. IT IS WRITTEN that it is better to trust in the LORD than in man—my confidence is not in human perfection but in God's faithfulness. That leader's failure does not disqualify God's plan to raise shepherds after His own heart. I am covered by the BARAK blessing—the same covenant that protected Abraham when HE was the one who lied, the same grace that restored Peter after denial. IT IS WRITTEN that I will be given shepherds who feed me with knowledge and understanding. I am not an orphan—I have a Father who never fails, never lies, never abandons. I walk in the wisdom to discern true shepherds and the grace to forgive false ones, because I myself have been forgiven an unpayable debt.
The Father didn't wait for that pastor to apologize before running to you—He's already wrapping the robe around you, putting the ring on your finger, throwing the party. He's raising up leaders in your generation who will shepherd with His heart, and He's healing the wound that leader left so you can receive from the GOOD ones He's sending.
