"I shouldn't ask God for money—that's selfish and unspiritual."
How it sounds in your head: Good Christians pray for missions and salvation. Asking for help with my car payment feels shallow. I should be more focused on 'eternal things' and just trust the process with finances.
"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!"
-- Matthew 7:11Source: Religion that spiritualizes poverty and demonizes provision, keeping believers passive and broke while calling it 'holiness.'
Every sermon emphasizes 'seeking first the kingdom' and she feels guilty even thinking about bills during worship. Provision feels carnal compared to 'deeper' prayers.
They got tired of manna and craved MEAT—actual physical craving for food they enjoyed. God didn't rebuke them for being unspiritual—He sent SO MUCH quail it was piled three feet high. Instant, extravagant, physical provision because they asked.
I REFUSE the lie that asking Father for provision is selfish. IT IS WRITTEN that my Father gives GOOD THINGS to those who ask, and Jesus taught me to pray for DAILY BREAD. God isn't too holy for my electric bill—He counted the hairs on my head. IT IS WRITTEN in John 10:10 that Jesus came to give me ABUNDANT LIFE, not poverty with a halo. The BARAK blessing includes being blessed in my storehouses, my bank account, and my wallet. I don't apologize for asking my Father for what I need. I'm His daughter, not a beggar.
Father isn't rolling His eyes at your 'unspiritual' requests—He's the Dad who throws parties, pours wine at weddings, and sends quail when His kids want flavor. He LOVES being asked because He LOVES providing.
