"I should leave what little I have for my kids, not give it away."
How it sounds in your head: My children might need help, or my grandchildren's education might need funding. It would be selfish to give to the church when my own family could use it. Doesn't the Bible say provide for your own household? I'm responsible to my bloodline first.
"And Elijah said to her, 'Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel: The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.'"
-- 1 Kings 17:13-15Enemy twists family stewardship into a barrier against generosity, using natural affection as a weapon to block supernatural multiplication that would bless family even more.
He genuinely loves his family and wants to leave something behind after feeling like he hasn't provided enough. Scripture does say provide for your household, which seems to support this reasoning.
A widow's sons were about to be taken as slaves to pay debt. She gave/poured the little oil she had FIRST, and God multiplied it to fill every vessel in the neighborhood—enough to pay ALL debt and have surplus for her AND her sons to live on.
I REFUSE the lie that giving robs my family of inheritance. IT IS WRITTEN that when the widow gave FIRST from her son's last meal, both were fed for YEARS through supernatural provision. The widow with sons in danger GAVE first and God multiplied oil to save them AND provide surplus. IT IS WRITTEN that when I give, it shall be given to me—pressed down, running over. My obedience unlocks blessing that OVERFLOWS to my entire household. I am blessed with the BARAK of Abraham—my children are blessed THROUGH my covenant, not despite my giving. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 112:2 that the generation of the upright will be blessed. My generosity is my children's GREATEST inheritance!
The Father isn't creating a choice between Him and your family—He's RUNNING toward you with multiplication that provides for BOTH beyond what hoarding ever could. Like the prodigal's father who had PLENTY for both sons despite one's waste, there's no shortage in the Father's house.
