"I should have played it safe instead of taking a risk on this business."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone probably thinks I was stupid for trying. Maybe I was. Safe would have been smarter. Now I look like an idiot who couldn't make it work.
"He who observes the wind will not sow, and he who regards the clouds will not reap."
-- Ecclesiastes 11:4World + religion: Safety equals wisdom. Risk equals foolishness. God only blesses the cautious.
The business actually did fail while 'safe' options didn't. Fear-based thinking looks like wisdom when you're hurting.
Peter took the massive risk of stepping out of a boat onto water while the other eleven played it safe. He started sinking, but Jesus caught him and the other eleven never got to walk on water at all.
I REFUSE the lie that I should have played it safe. IT IS WRITTEN that those who watch the wind won't sow and those who watch clouds won't reap - safety paralysis isn't wisdom. I took a risk and that's the heart of a warrior, not a failure. The 'safe' one-talent servant in Matthew 25 got condemned while the risk-takers got rewarded. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, in the city and in the field - blessing covers my bold moves. My Father celebrates courage, not cowardice. This setback doesn't mean I should shrink back; it means I'm learning to walk on water.
The Father isn't scolding you for trying - He's proud you stepped out of the boat while others stayed safe. Like Peter sinking, Jesus is reaching for you, not lecturing you about risk assessment.
