"I should have forgiven myself years ago; now I've wasted decades in guilt."
How it sounds in your head: I've spent so many years carrying this. If I'd only known sooner, forgiven myself sooner, I could have lived differently. Now it's too late to get those years back. I'm such a fool.
"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
-- Philippians 3:13-14Source: Enemy's strategy to turn even the revelation of grace into condemnation by making you guilty about being guilty.
When you finally see the truth about God's forgiveness, your first instinct is to beat yourself up for not seeing it sooner—the enemy takes the very moment of breakthrough and weaponizes it into more guilt. You're being condemned for the years you spent under condemnation.
Jacob spent decades running, deceiving, living in fear after stealing his brother's blessing. At age 90+, wrestling with God at Jabbok, he finally got his breakthrough and name change in ONE NIGHT. God didn't waste the decades—He used them. Jacob's late revelation didn't disqualify him; it launched him.
I REFUSE the lie that I've wasted years by not knowing sooner. IT IS WRITTEN that I forget what is behind and press toward what is ahead—that includes the years I spent in false guilt. God's timing is perfect, and my revelation came exactly when it was meant to. I am under the BARAK blessing, which means God wastes NOTHING in my life—even the hard years are being worked for good. IT IS WRITTEN that God restores the years, and I declare that every past year is being redeemed right now. I will not be condemned for the time I spent under condemnation. I press forward into the freedom Jesus purchased, and I receive every remaining day as a GIFT.
The Father isn't shaking His head at the years you 'lost'—He's restoring them RIGHT NOW and saying, 'I waste nothing. Every year, even the guilt-filled ones, I'm working for your good.' He's not late. You're right on time for THIS moment of breakthrough.
