"I should forgive myself, but I don't feel worthy of forgiveness yet."
How it sounds in your head: Theologically, you know you're forgiven. But emotionally, you don't feel it yet. Maybe after more time in therapy, more healing work, more inner child processing, more deliverance sessions—THEN you'll feel worthy enough to truly receive forgiveness. Right now, you're just going through the motions.
"For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things."
-- 1 John 3:20World system teaching that feelings must validate truth, making emotions the authority over God's declared Word.
You genuinely don't feel forgiven, and it seems dishonest to claim something you don't feel. You've been taught emotional authenticity is the highest value.
Tax collector who'd defrauded his own people for years, universally despised, climbing trees to see Jesus because he was too hated to get near. Jesus invited Himself to dinner BEFORE Zacchaeus made amends, and salvation came to his house THAT DAY—not after a restoration process.
I REFUSE the lie that my feelings determine my forgiveness. IT IS WRITTEN that God is greater than my condemning heart, and His Word trumps my emotions every time. I am not waiting to feel worthy—Christ IS my worthiness. The BARAK blessing didn't wait for Abraham to feel righteous after lying—it protected him WHILE he was still wrong. IT IS WRITTEN I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and that's POSITION, not emotion. My feelings will catch up, but they don't get to veto what God already declared. I AM forgiven. I AM worthy through Christ's blood. I receive it NOW, not after I feel it.
The Father isn't waiting for your feelings to align before He embraces you—He's running to you while you still smell like pigs, interrupting your shame speech with celebration. Your worthiness is HIS gift, not your achievement.
