"I should have been content with what we had instead of wanting more."
How it sounds in your head: Greed did this. I wasn't grateful enough for what God already gave us. I wanted to get rich and now we're being humbled. I should have just been thankful and stayed small.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Religious: Poverty theology disguised as humility, false contentment that rejects abundance, greed accusation for desiring increase.
Sermons about the love of money and greed. The loss feels like punishment for wanting financial growth instead of staying 'humble' and poor.
Solomon asked for wisdom, and God said 'because you didn't ask for riches, I'm giving you riches too—both riches and honor.' God ADDED wealth to wisdom without Solomon even asking for it.
I REFUSE the lie that wanting financial increase was greed that caused loss. IT IS WRITTEN that God wants me to PROSPER in all things, and the BARAK blessing declares ABUNDANT prosperity, not barely enough. Desiring increase isn't sin—it's AGREEMENT with covenant promise. IT IS WRITTEN in Deuteronomy 28:12 that God will 'open to you His good treasure... and you shall lend to many nations.' Lending requires ABUNDANCE, not staying small. Abraham got RICH even after lying. Solomon got WEALTH he didn't even ask for. The prodigal got a PARTY, not a lecture on contentment. God's not mad that I wanted more—He's preparing to give me MORE THAN I IMAGINED because that's His nature. Poverty isn't humility; it's refusing the blessing Christ DIED to give me.
Your Father isn't punishing you for wanting abundance. He's running toward you with the fattened calf, not rice and beans—He's whispering that you're made for OVERFLOW, not for staying small to appear holy, and the ring of authority is going back on your finger.
