"I should feel guilty for wanting things when my family is drowning in debt."
How it sounds in your head: I see something I want and immediately feel selfish. My birthday is coming and I don't even want to tell them what I want because I know they can't afford it. I feel bad for having desires at all.
"Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."
-- Psalm 37:4Enemy: Spirit of poverty that makes normal desires feel sinful and creates shame around wants.
The financial stress is REAL and visible. Wanting anything feels like adding burden to already-overwhelmed parents. Guilt automatically attaches to desire.
Wanted a baby so badly she wept and couldn't eat, prayed with such intensity priest thought she was drunk. God didn't rebuke her DESIRE - He GAVE her Samuel plus five more children.
I REFUSE the lie that wanting things is selfish. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me the DESIRES of my heart. The Father GAVE me desires - they're not sin. IT IS WRITTEN that He takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant. The BARAK blessing includes ABUNDANCE, not just survival. I release guilt for having wants and receive the Father's DELIGHT in providing. My family's current debt doesn't make my desires invalid. The Father is BIG ENOUGH to provide for them AND fulfill my desires SIMULTANEOUSLY. I receive His provision without shame.
The Father doesn't want you walking on eggshells around your own desires - He PLANTED those desires and is preparing to FULFILL them. He's not asking you to shrink your wants to match current circumstances.
