"I should be able to control my emotions better—this emotional instability is sinful"
How it sounds in your head: I cry at random times, snap when I don't mean to, feel too much or nothing at all. Proverbs says a fool gives full vent to their spirit. I'm out of control and it's dishonoring to God.
"Jesus wept."
-- John 11:35Religion weaponized self-control as emotional suppression, mistaking human response for spiritual failure.
She's been told that emotional regulation is a fruit of the Spirit she clearly doesn't have. Every outburst or tear feels like proof she's not walking in the Spirit.
Jeremiah cursed the day he was born, wished he'd died in the womb, and accused God of deceiving him—intense emotional instability. God called him 'the weeping prophet' and never rebuked his emotional outbursts. He was faithful, not controlled.
I REFUSE the lie that emotional intensity is sin. IT IS WRITTEN in John 11:35 that Jesus wept—emotions are HUMAN, not sinful. Jeremiah raged and wept and remained God's faithful prophet. IT IS WRITTEN that I am made in God's image, and He FEELS deeply. My emotional range isn't failure; it's design. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, tears and all. The BARAK blessing covers my emotional life. The Father isn't demanding control—He's offering comfort, meeting me in every feeling without condemnation.
The Father gave the prodigal the robe while he was still emotionally wrecked and probably sobbing. He didn't wait for composure—He celebrated the reunion, tears and all. He's holding you in every emotional storm, not waiting for calm.
