"I should be peaceful about dying, but I'm terrified - something's wrong with my faith."
How it sounds in your head: I've believed in heaven my whole life, but now that death is close, I'm panicking. Christians are supposed to be ready to meet Jesus with joy, but I wake up terrified. If my faith was real, I wouldn't be this afraid.
"Who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear."
-- Hebrews 5:7Religion taught her that fear of death equals doubt in salvation, that real Christians face death with calm certainty.
She hears testimonies of saints who died peacefully, singing hymns. Meanwhile, she's gripping the sheets at night in terror. The contrast feels like evidence her faith is defective.
When told he would die, this godly king 'turned his face toward the wall and wept bitterly' - not peaceful acceptance but bitter tears. God didn't rebuke him for the emotional reaction; God heard his prayer and added 15 years to his life. Fear didn't disqualify his righteousness.
I REFUSE the lie that fear of dying proves weak faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus prayed with vehement cries and tears facing death - my Savior UNDERSTANDS this terror. Hezekiah wept bitterly at the news of death, and God called him righteous. My fear doesn't change the FINISHED WORK of the cross. IT IS WRITTEN in John 10:28 that Jesus gives me eternal life and I shall NEVER perish - that's based on His grip, not my emotions. Even if I'm afraid, I'm still BARAK-blessed, still held, still headed to paradise. His covenant doesn't require my bravery.
Your Father sees your terror and isn't disappointed. He sent His Son to feel this EXACT fear so you'd never face it alone. He's not waiting at the finish line with a scorecard - He's running the final stretch WITH you, holding your hand through every fearful moment.
