"I should accept death peacefully—fighting for life shows lack of faith."
How it sounds in your head: Good Christians are supposed to welcome death with serenity, trusting God's timing. If I'm fighting to stay alive, maybe I don't have enough faith. Maybe I'm being selfish, clinging to life when I should let go.
"I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD."
-- Psalm 118:17Religion: Teaches resignation to death as godliness and fighting for life as faithlessness.
She's heard sermons about 'dying grace' and believers who peacefully passed away. Her struggle to survive feels less spiritual than their surrender.
God sent Isaiah to tell Hezekiah 'Set your house in order, for you SHALL die.' Hezekiah didn't accept it peacefully—he wept bitterly and prayed desperately. Before Isaiah left the palace, God REVERSED the sentence: 'I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; I will ADD fifteen years to your life.' His refusal to accept death moved God's heart.
I REFUSE the lie that fighting for life shows lack of faith. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 118:17, 'I shall NOT DIE, but LIVE, and declare the works of the LORD'—that's a WARRIOR declaration, not resignation. Jesus came to DESTROY death (Hebrews 2:14), and death is an ENEMY, not God's will for this moment. Hezekiah wept and prayed and God ADDED fifteen years; my tears and fight are not weakness but faith in action. IT IS WRITTEN in John 10:10, 'The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but I have come that they may have LIFE and have it MORE ABUNDANTLY.' I choose LIFE today. I am under the BARAK blessing that protected Abraham through famine, war, and old age. I have not finished declaring God's works yet.
The Father isn't waiting for you to peacefully surrender to death—He's the God who reversed Hezekiah's death sentence because of his tears, who gave Abraham 25 MORE years after promising Isaac at 100, who raised Lazarus after four days just to prove 'I AM the resurrection and the LIFE.' While religion says 'let go,' Jesus is saying 'I came to give you LIFE abundantly' (John 10:10), and abundant includes RIGHT NOW.
