"I rejected the Holy Spirit's conviction too many times and He left me."
How it sounds in your head: I felt Him tugging—at the altar call, during worship, in that conversation with my friend—and I said no. Again and again. Now I don't feel anything. The well ran dry. I grieved Him away and He's not coming back because I had my chances.
"For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
-- Hebrews 13:5Source: Calvinist 'limited chances' theology mixed with emotional reasoning that equates numbness with abandonment.
The feelings ARE gone—you used to cry during worship, sense His presence, feel convicted. Now it's just silence. The timeline of your refusals followed by numbness feels like obvious cause and effect.
Jonah didn't just reject God's call once—he RAN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, got on a boat, caused a storm, got swallowed by a fish, and STILL argued with God after obeying. God's response? 'The word of the Lord came to Jonah a SECOND time'—instant reinstatement.
I REFUSE the lie that the Holy Spirit abandons those who struggle to obey. IT IS WRITTEN that He will NEVER leave me nor forsake me—never means never, not 'until you mess up too much.' My salvation isn't sustained by my consistency but by HIS faithfulness. IT IS WRITTEN in Philippians 1:6 that He who BEGAN a good work in me will COMPLETE it—not abandon it mid-construction because I stalled. I don't feel Him right now, but feelings are not facts. I am sealed by the Holy Spirit, marked as His, covered by the BARAK blessing that protected wanderers and rebels. I am His, and He is mine, NOW and FOREVER.
The Father sees you panicking in the silence, thinking abandonment, but He's actually just teaching you to walk by FAITH, not feelings. He hasn't left—He's closer than your breath, waiting for you to discover that His presence isn't dependent on your goosebumps.
