"I never learned how to be a good friend and it's too late to change."
How it sounds in your head: I was always selfish, bad at keeping in touch, terrible at knowing what to say. I never developed those skills and now I'm too old and tired to learn.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:17Performance lie that friendship requires learned skills rather than being loved and accepted.
History of failed friendships, awareness of social awkwardness, comparing self to naturally relational people.
Blind beggar, never seen a face, no social skills from years of isolation. Jesus spoke one word, IMMEDIATELY he received sight and followed Jesus—instant transformation from broken beggar to devoted friend.
I REFUSE the lie that I never learned friendship skills and it's too late to change. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a NEW creation in Christ—old patterns PASSED AWAY, all things BECAME NEW. I am not bound by past failures or lack of training. IT IS WRITTEN in Philippians 1:6 that He who began good work in me will COMPLETE it. I am being perfected, transformed, renewed MOMENT BY MOMENT. The BARAK blessing means I am blessed in relationships—favor and friendship flow to me by covenant, not skill. I am MADE NEW.
Father isn't grading your friendship skills—He's making you into the friend you've always wanted to be, not through effort but through transformation. You're becoming NEW while you sleep, effortless as a branch producing fruit.
