"I need to understand why I'm addicted before I can be free."
How it sounds in your head: Therapy says you need to dig into root causes - childhood trauma, unmet needs, emotional wounds. You feel stuck in endless excavation of your past, believing freedom requires understanding every psychological factor that contributed to your addiction.
"Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come forth!' And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, 'Loose him, and let him go.'"
-- John 11:43-44Source: Therapeutic culture that makes freedom dependent on self-knowledge rather than Christ's power - turning deliverance into a research project.
Counselors ask 'What's underneath the addiction?' and it feels responsible to do the deep work. You assume understanding the roots is necessary to pull them out. Quick deliverance without 'inner healing' feels shallow and incomplete.
Jesus healed a blind man without any discussion of how he became blind, what trauma caused it, or what lessons blindness taught him. Jesus spit, touched his eyes, and he SAW. No therapy, no root cause analysis - just POWER and SIGHT.
I REFUSE the lie that I need to understand everything before freedom comes. IT IS WRITTEN that when Jesus said 'Come FORTH,' Lazarus came OUT - no exit interview required. I don't need years of therapy excavating my past. I need ONE WORD from Jesus. The blind man didn't need to understand his blindness - he needed a TOUCH. IT IS WRITTEN that His divine power has given me ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness. I don't need complete self-knowledge - I need HIS POWER. Freedom is not at the end of understanding - it's at the sound of His voice.
The Father isn't waiting for you to complete a psychological dissertation on your addiction before He moves. He's ready to speak 'COME FORTH' right now, exactly as you are, with all your unanswered questions.
