"I need to understand why I have this pain before I can be healed from it."
How it sounds in your head: There must be a root cause—unresolved trauma, suppressed emotions, spiritual blockage. You need to dig deeper, do more inner healing work, find the hidden issue. Once you understand the 'why,' then healing can come. It's irresponsible to just ask for symptoms to disappear without addressing the root.
"When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, 'Do you want to be made well?' The sick man answered Him, 'Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.' Jesus said to him, 'Rise, take up your bed and walk.' And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked."
-- John 5:6-9Therapeutic/religious hybrid: making healing contingent on psychological excavation, turning breakthrough into a process of self-discovery.
Therapeutic culture emphasizes 'getting to the root,' making symptom relief without understanding seem superficial. Christian counseling often requires extensive inner healing before physical healing, creating prerequisites.
Disciples asked 'WHO sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?'—trying to find root cause and assign blame. Jesus said 'NEITHER'—refused to make healing contingent on understanding why—spit on ground, made mud, put it on eyes, said 'Go wash,' and the man came back SEEING, never needing to understand the 'why' behind the blindness.
I REFUSE the lie that I need to understand my pain before I can be free. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus healed the man at Bethesda without asking why he'd been sick 38 years—He just said 'Rise' and the man was IMMEDIATELY well. Healing doesn't require me to earn it through psychological excavation. The blood of Jesus is sufficient without my understanding. IT IS WRITTEN in Isaiah 55:8-9 that His ways are higher than my ways—I don't need to comprehend His methods to receive His miracles. The BARAK blessing didn't wait for Abraham to figure out HOW God would do impossible things; it just HAPPENED. I receive healing NOW, understanding optional, blood sufficient, grace enough. The finished work of Christ covers what I don't understand.
The Father isn't holding your healing hostage until you complete enough therapy sessions. He's the one who heals the brokenhearted AND binds up their wounds—He doesn't require you to psychoanalyze yourself first; He just pours out healing because that's who He is.
